Government Relations Internships

Working within the Government Affairs Department, you will help facilitate planning, special initiatives, and Board relations and operations of the Military Children's Six Foundation with respect to government relations, including coordinating activities of staff and outside partners on government relations projects.

  • Prepare for and observe: staff planning sessions, meetings with arts and community partners and elected officials and government staff, and Board meetings.

  • Accompany Senior Director, Government Affairs to meetings with policymakers and their staffs as well as advocacy coalition activities.

  • Invite government and community leaders to special events.

  • Assist with cultivation and stewardship events with government officials.

  • Learn about the structure and function of a Board of Directors and its Government Relations Committee, including the role that government advocacy plays in a nonprofit organization.

  • Assist with the coordination of all Military Children's Six Foundation, intern visits to Hill.

  • Assist with the promotion of initiatives through writing and public interface.

  • Conduct research to inform new initiatives.

1 / Public Affairs

Our Public Affairs internship offers students and graduates the opportunity to become an integral part of our public affairs team. This internship provides experience in drafting and executing full public affairs campaigns, pitching reporters, creating content, writing and editing social media, press releases, and more. The ideal candidate has a vested interest in public affairs, excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to adapt, collaborate, and a willingness to express new ideas.

While our program is perfect for a candidate who can commit to a full-time work schedule, we also regularly accommodate part-time interns.

2 / Operations Internship

Our Operations Internship provides students and graduates with a variety of learning experiences and insight into the operations and business development objectives of the government relations industry. As an intern for the Operations team, selected candidates work directly with our team on event coordination for fundraisers and client meetings, firm marketing proposals and research, firm financial planning and compliance, and internal operations.

Selected candidates will be a part of a fun, dynamic, and evolving team at the Military Children's Six Foundation. The right candidate should be passionate about learning, military children, able to work within tight deadlines, and interested in helping to improve and expand our existing Operations capabilities.

3 / Publications Intern

The Publications Intern will support the Communications & Marketing team by writing, editing, and proofing copy for Military Children's Six Foundation print and online platforms. Through strategic and creative storytelling, this intern will help support MC6F’s institutional and marketing goals and enhance the MC6F experience for thousands of military children!

  • Assist with collecting, editing, and proofreading artist biography information for print and digital program books and publications.

  • Research, write, and edit feature content pieces for program books, Military Children's All Access blog, and other public communications.

  • Assist with building out digital program book pages for The Military Children 2024 World Expo site.

  • Provide support for the program book and publication review processes.

  • Contribute to brainstorming content ideas that tell the MC6F story to diverse audiences.
